Intellectual Property is not the best way for preserving and protecting cultural heritage
Solo, MelayuOnline.com- At 05.30 a.m., five crews of MelayuOnline.com consisting ofMahyudin Al Mudra, Naina Sinaro, Hadi Kurniawan, Ali Rido, and Ahmad Salehudin, departed from Yogyakarta to Solo to attend International Workshop “Safeguarding for Intangible Cultural Heritage.” Fresh atmosphere in the morning along Solo-Jogja street boosted up the crews‘ motivation to reach Solo soon.
“Intangible cultural heritage must be kept well. From cultural heritage, we can gain abundant knowledge for establishing a more humanistic life in the future.” Mahyudin said when the crews arrived at a restaurant nearby Radya Pustaka Museum, Solo, Central Java.
After breakfast, around 08.30 a.m., MelayuOnline.com crews continued the trip to Sahid Jaya Hotel Solo where the workshop took place. At 09.46 a.m., the workshop participated by some representatives from UNESCO, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesian cultural experts was officially begun by Indonesian Vice Preseident‘s Deputy Secretary, V. Henry Soelistyo Budi, S.H., L.L.M.
In his opening speech, Henry said that intellectual propertyis strategic effort in preserving cultural heritage as long as it can be used properly as acknowledgement, respectation, and protection. Moreover, he added that cultural heritage is a collective resources for us to establish a better human civilization.
However, Henry also remarked that intellectual property is not the best way for preserving and protecting cultural heritage. “The most important thing is conducting revitalization on cultural heritage. Therefore, this workshop must be well-interpreted as a way for eralizing strategic preservation of cultural heritage.” Henry said.
