The Launching of MelayuOnline.com

Malay Civilization ought not to be solely Left to Guard to Malaysia – Mahyudin
The Launching of MelayuOnline.com

Yogya- Malay is a great civilization in the world, thus there must be strong and continuing commitments from those who endeavour to keep and preserve this cultural civilization. There is no another aim except for uniting the scattered Malay culture into a comprehensive and complete database.

The Indonesian people are obliged to keep and preserve the Malay civilization centred in Riau Province now. Malay cultural civilization ought not to be solely left to guard to Malaysia, which is settled by less than 20 million people. However, we must admit that the Malaysian‘s efforts to preserve this civilization are bigger than the Indonesian‘s is.

The above argumentations might properly represent the way of thought of Mahyudin Al Mudra S.H., M.M., - the head of Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (the Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture). On Saturday (20/1) night, a cyber portal namely MelayuOnline.com, which is under the management of BKPBM, was launched to the public. MelayuOnline.com can be accessed on http://www.melayuonline.com and email at info@melayuonline.com. Came in the launching ceremony were some honoured guests such as Tazbir SH, and Hari ‘Ong‘ Wahyu.

The launching of MelayuOnline.com on January 20th was timed to coincide with the first of Muharram 1428 H. “The eagerness to create MelayuOnline has been initiated since six years ago, but formerly, still in the form of data collecting. For such a programme, we have spent about IDR 100 million,” Mahyudin‘s remarks.

Further, he added that MelayuOnline.com is an actualization of BKPBM‘s hard works in revealing, collecting, preserving, and immortalizing the scattered Malay culture in the world. “We are going to make a complete and comprehensive online database for this great civilization, which is now scattered over the world,” Mahyudin said. In another words, BKPBM is trying to preserve tradition in non-traditional ways, that is through information and communication technology that is inexorable anymore.

MelayuOnline.com provides the complete information about Malay culture that is divided into 18 menus: Home, News, Articles, Malay History, Malay Culture, Malay Figure, Malay Researcher, Award, Agenda, Collection, Store, Directory, Encyclopaedia, Dictionary, Donation, and Site Map.

It is possible to add some other new menus on MelayuOnline.com to accommodate the public‘s demands in the future. “All the materials within are free for public usage by quoting MelayuOnline.com as the source,” Mahyudin added.
