Textile museum gets Betawi artifacts
Jakarta - The Textile Museum received Thursday nine Betawi artifacts believed to date back to a century ago.
The collectibles are seven Betawi batik cloths, a kebaya encim (traditional blouse) called Karancang Betawi and a crystal betel pot. Arie Budhiman, head of the city`s tourism and culture agency, officially presented the collection to the museum in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
The collection was previously in the possession of the Sirih Nanas Foundation. Foundation head Emma Agus Bisri said the artifacts ranged in age from 90 to 100 years. One of the batik cloths was made by Van Zuylen, a Dutch batik painter, Emma said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
With the arrival of the new collection, the museum now houses 1,759 items.
