Stamps To Commemorate 100 Years Of Bumbungan 12

Bandar Seri Begawan- The Postal Services Department has launched a special collection of "Commemorative Stamps", in conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of Bumbungan Dua Belas, (House of Twelve Roofs), one of the oldest buildings in Brunei Darussalam.

The launching of the stamps was held at the Stamp Gallery at the Post Office Headquarters in the capital, yesterday.

The guest of honour was the Postmaster General, Hj Abdul Kadir Tengah.

Other invited guests included Acting Director of Museums, Bantong Antaran, and various officers from the Ministry of Communications.

The launch was expected to make people aware of the new stamp collection, and also to enrich collections of dedicated stamp collectors.

The Postal Department also hoped to provide youth in the country with a little bit of knowledge about the history and culture of the nation, through the variety of stamps. The Postal Department frequently releases new stamps throughout the year.

There are three different designs of the new "Commemorative Stamps" available, all featuring Bumbungan Dua Belas from different angles and colours.

Located about one and a half kilometres from the capital, Bumbungan Dua Belas was the official residence of the first British Resident in Brunei, Malcolm McArthur.

Completed in 1907, the building still keeps its grand architecture and unique look. The structure and foundation of the building were made from special kind of wood, which is rare and hardly available nowadays.

Bumbungan Dua Belas was built on top of a hill along Jalan Residency, providing a view of the Brunei River and the Water Village.
