Melayuonline.com`s Director Honoured Tokoh Pemersatu Melayu Serantau Award
Ketapang, East Kalimantan - The hard works of the head of Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture, as well as the Director of MelayuOnline.com, Mahyuddin Al Mudra, are continually gaining appreciation from the entire Malay community over the world.
Together with Prof. Dr. Dato Tan Sri Ismail Hussein, Mahyudin was honoured “Tokoh Pemersatu Melayu Serantau” (Serantau Malay Unifying Figure) award by Lembaga Adat Melayu Serantau-LAMS (Serantau Malay Adat Assembly) on Friday (29/5/2009).
LAMS is a worldwide Malay adat and custom assembly, which was established following the agreement reached in the Borneo Dialogue held in Miri, Serawak in 1986. LAMS is likewise the continuation of the Malay World Symposium held in Syah Alam, Malaysia, on September 23-26, 2006. The above two events are two historic and great events, in which many historians, cultural activists, authors, and researchers discussed the future of the Malay cultural civilization.
The awarding ceremony took place precisely timed with the Declaration and the Inauguration of LAMS officials. That was also the inauguration day for Drs. H. Ismet Abdullah - Governor of Riau Islands Province - and Ir. H. Eko Maulana Ali, Ms.Sc. - Governor of Bangka Belitung Province - as “Pemimpin Adat Melayu Serantau,” (Serantau Malay Adat Leaders. Another outstanding Malay figure, Another Malay prominent figure, Datuk Setia Negeri Amanah H. Son Huzrin Hood, SH., was awarded “Tokoh Budaya Melayu Serantau” (Serantau Malay Culture Figure) as well.
LAMS‘s Secretary General, Dato Kyai Mangku Negeri H. Morkes Effendi, S,Pd., MH., who is also the regent of Ketapang District, said that the awards are kinds of deep appreciation of all respective works in term of heightening the Malay dignity.
“The award is an appreciation of all the hard works they have made so far in establishing cooperative networks amongst the Malay society from various countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Madagascar,” said H. Morkes, in the presence of the LAMS Secretary General Deputy, Abdi Nurkamil Mawardi.
Mahyuddin said that the award was an appreciation of MelayuOnline.com‘s endeavours to unify the Malay people from all over the globe.
“I was deeply touched and grateful for this. Indeed, this is a means of strengthening the social networks amongst the Malay people scattering throughout the Archipelago. What more important is how to raise the Malay people‘s economic welfare, political existence, and of course, the Malay culture itself. There must be simultaneous, practical, integrated, continuing programs in achieving that goal,” Mahyudin‘s remarks.
