`Inside Silat` and `Bumi Peribumi` Documentaries Bag Two Awards Each
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Two documentaries entitled “Inside Silat”, produced by Finas and Technonius Sdn Bhd, and “Bumi Peribumi” from Finas and Q-Plex Communications Sdn Bhd bagged two awards each at the 2009 Malaysian Documentary Awards Festival here tonight.
“Inside Silat” won in the Best Art and Culture Category and Best Editing Category while “Bumi Peribumi” took the prize for Best Environment and Tourism Documentary and for Best Director.
The festival being held for the first time also saw Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd taking the award for Best History and Knowledge Documentary through its film “Rosli Dhoby- Pembunuh atau Pejuang” while the Current Issues and Communities Award was bagged by Primeworks Sdn Bhd for the documentary entitled “Gaza”.
Meanwhile, for Best Documenatry Script the award was bagged by M.Thiaga Rajan of Vannakkam Malaysia DotCom Sdn Bhd and Finas through “Tun Sambathan”.
The Best Musical Score Award went to Finas via “Institusi Parlimen” while the Best Cinematography Award went to Cipta Asia Motion Sdn Bhd`s production “Masjid Abu Bakar”.
The Special Jury`s Award was won by MK Direct Sdn Bhd which produced “Atas Nama Perjuangan”.
For Best Documentary the winner won RM5,000 and a trophy while the Best Director, Cinematography, Script and Editing award winners won RM3,000 each and trophies.
Earlier the Deputy Minister for Information Communication and Culture, Datuk Joseph Salang, in his speech said the government had great faith in documentaries that had high intellectual asset and commercial value as well as could cross boundaries to be appreciated by various races.
He said participation was encouraging and was a positive sign about the achievements of local artistes who were increasingly creative and critical.
