UMNO Stalwart And Malay Language Hero Mourned
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak described former Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Rahim Abu Bakar as a champion of UMNO and the Malay language, and his death as a great loss to the nation.
“I am saddened by his death because I have known him for a long time, and he was a person committed to fighting for UMNO and in matters relating to the language.
“He had also championed many issues in the party and was greatly valued by us,” Najib told reporters after paying his last respects to Abdul Rahim at his home in Jalan U Thant here yesterday.
Abdul Rahim, 66, died at home at 7.10pm yesterday, believed to be from a heart attack.
Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, who also paid his last respects, said Abdul Rahim`s death was a loss to the people of Malaysia in general and Pahang in particular.
Among those present were Melaka Yang di-pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and Interna-tional Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
Abdul Rahim leaves a wife, Datin Rosnah Kamaruddin, four children and four grandchildren.
His remains were taken to Masjid Kampung Pandan in Am-pang, before burial at the Taman Kosas Muslim cemetery after Friday prayers.
