Bali to Build Puputan Badung Historical Museum
Jakarta, Indonesia - The Bali administration will build a historical museum called Puputan Badung in the Pura Besakih in Karangasem regency, at a cost of Rp 27 billion (US$3.15 million).
“To construct the museum is easy, but what is important is to keep the spirit of the building. In the future our grand children should know the spirit of the museum. We should also plan a good management to prevent possible conflicts,” Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
Puputan Badung is a historical event in which Balinese fought against a Dutch military force in September of 1906. Puputan is a Balinese term referring to a mass ritual suicide, that was chosen in preference to facing the humiliation of surrender.
The governor said that the museum building should reflect the Balinese culture andarchitecture.
He added that the museum would provide tourists with rich information about Bali’s history.
