I La Galigo Translator Receives Award for Dedication
Jakarta, Indonesia - The epic story of I La Galigo translator, the late Muhammad Salim, received an award from the South Sulawesi administration for his dedication in introducing Buginese literature and culture to the world.
The award was given by Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo on Tuesday to Salim’s wife, Djamiah, during the opening ceremony of the Fort Rotterdam Festival at MandalaMonument, Makassar.
Salim passed away on March 27, 2011 at the age of 75. The same award was also extended to historian Edward Poelinggomang and HasanuddinUniversityCulturalCenter chief Nunding Ram.
The administration had also given awards to tourism figures who had support the regional tourism industry. Categories included best taxi driver and best toilet cleaner.
“We would like to send the message that a good job should also be praised by those in lower levels, not only the agency heads or regional leaders,” Syahrul said Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
