Children visit old folks` Home to Promote Inter-racial Relations

Singapore - A group of young children visited an old folks` home on Friday to bridge generation gap and promote inter-racial relations under a programme called "Project Ramadan Visit".

These children are from the kindergartens run by the Young Women Muslim Association and the Young Women Christian Association.

The visit is the first of such collaboration between the two organisations.

Besides putting up a show, the six-year-olds also got to mingle with the elderly at Sree Narayana Home for the Aged Sick.

One of kids said: "I like to be around them because I like to dance and sing with them."

Another exclaimed: "I`m very happy to be around old people to show them love and care and concern."

Nadhira Koyakutty, Coordinator of Early Childhood Education, Young Women Muslim Association, said: "We want the children to come and mingle with the old folks regardless of race, religion and culture, and to render help to those who need it."

This programme, funded by the LIEN Foundation Singapore, also allowed teachers and students from both organisations to get to know one another better.
