Brunei Delegation Leaves For 2007 SEA Youth Ship

Bandar Seri Begawan - Representatives from Brunei Darussalam who are taking part in the 2007 Southeast Asia Youth Ship Programme left the country yAterday for Japan � their first stop before they continue with their journey to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Prior to their departure at the Brunei International Airport, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Dato Major General (R) Awang Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud handed the national flag to the head of the contingent, Awang Hj Muhd Hafiy bin Abdullah Fung.

Also present to bid farewell to the Brunei contingent were Japanese Ambassador Mr Hashimoto Itsuo, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Hj Jemat bin Hj Ampal, as well as the ministry‘s deputy permanent secretary and other senior officers.

Twenty-eight people - 14 males and 14 females - are representing the Sultanate in this year‘s Southeast Asia Youth Ship Programme.

The entire journey will take 52 days and after their call on Vietnam, the delegates will return to Japan before leaving for Brunei on December 12.

The Southeast Asia Youth Ship Programme has progressed over the years since it was first introduced more than 30 years ago drawing participants from Asean member countries.

The aim of this programme is to enhance friendship among Asean member countries and Japan, allowing for the exchange of ideas, culture and experiences between participants of the programme.

Last month, the participants paid a courtesy call on the minister who encouraged them to uphold the good name of the nation and to always portray the characteristics of true Bruneians.
