Indonesian President to visit Malaysian PM on annual meeting

Indonesian President to visit Malaysian PM on annual meeting

Jakarta - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will become a guest of Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi later this month on an annual meeting which has been regularly held over the last several years.

The Susilo`s Malaysia trip is scheduled on Jan. 11-12, presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal told reporters on Thursday.

The meeting was originally scheduled for December but Susilo was unable to spare a time as Indonesia hosted the U.N. conference on climate change, Dino said at the State Palace here.

Dino said the two leaders have not specified any particular agendas for the upcoming meeting.

Susilo and Badawi last held such a meeting in the West Sumatra town of Bukittingi in late 2006.

Indonesia and Malaysia are facing several thorny bilateral issues such as migrant workers and maritime border.

Jakarta has occasionally said many Indonesian migrant workers were underpaid and often treated inhumanely in Malaysia, while the latter accused its neighbor of sending millions of illegal workers. The two countries also involved in border disputes.

Despite the many divisive issues, the leaders of the two nations always say that Indonesians and Malaysians are brothers.
