United Muslim Council endorses Yano as next AFP chief
DavaoCity - In a letter addressed to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the United Muslim Council for Peace and Development (UMPCD) has endorsed Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano as the next Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In a written statement signed by UMPCD President Sultan Taher Ali Polao, Al Haj the Council said that "We know Lt. General Yano for a long time when he was assigned in Mindanao and can vouch on his technical experience and skill in relation to the position as the next Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines."
The statement also cited the qualities of Lt. General Yano as a Mindanaoan, who according to the statement "knowing his dedication, strong leadership and commitment to work as chairman of the GRP-MILF peace process. His honesty, sincerity, loyalty, trustworthy with confident experience can be the answer for the next AFP chief-of-staff."
The group also said that if chosen Lt. Gen. Yano would be the first Chief-of-Staff from Mindanao.
UMPCD is group composed of community-based Muslims advocating peace and development. Membership of the council spans five major Muslim sectors in Mindanao ; the Kalagan, Tausug, Samal, Maranao and Maguindanao and includes even the Badjaos.
