Bebalam

Bebalam is a kind of pantun (Malay traditional verse) delivered by a Tukang Nyanyi Panjang. It is found in Petalangan tradition, Kabupaten Pelalawan, Riau Province. Bebalam acts as the opening and closing of a story told in a Nyanyi Panjang performance. Bebalam contains honorific, fortune-telling, and adolescent pantuns. It is called Bebalam because people usually sing it in a voice resembles to that of Balam birds.
