Tongkat is the deputy of a batin who also has the authority over Hutan Tanah Wilayat. In certain circumstances, Tongkat can replace a batin as a chief. There are at least two regions where the term is used, namely Petalangan in Kabupaten Pelalawan and Kabupaten Siak, both located in Riau Province.
