Inaugural Malay Arts Festival launched to promote traditional arts
Singapore- The first Malay Arts Festival was launched at the Malay Heritage Centre on Saturday.
The festival is seen as one of the key platforms to nurture and promote traditional arts.
In launching the festival, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Dr Lee Boon Yang said it will contribute to the continued development and evolution of the Malay culture in Singapore and the region.
He was also delighted to see many young participants, indicating they are in touch with their cultural heritage.
Dr Lee said while the government will continue to support ethnic arts, there must also be strong support and participation from the private and people sectors.
The Malay Arts Festival will be on till August 19.
