Magazine in Arabic Pegon Language Launched

Magazine in Arabic Pegon Language Launched

Semarang, Idonesia - Several young people from the Central Java branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama organization have published a magazine entirely written in Arabic, but with Indonesian pronunciation.

Among Islamic boarding schools, this is known as the Arabic Pegon language.

The magazine was published because the use of Arabic Pegon in Islamic boarding schools is believed to have faded.

“Yet, the use of Arabic Pegon is an old tradition in Islamic boarding schools,” said Ahmad Utomo, the editor-in-chief of Turots magazine, yesterday.

The first edition of the monthly magazine launched at the Al-Itqon Islamic boarding school in Tlogosari, Semarang, last Sunday, was 60-pages thick.

The magazine is called Turots, which means tradition.

The slogan of the magazine is "Minas salaf ilaa salam" (from salaf for peace).

Turots mainly covers recent religious studies, Islamic boarding school profiles, recent Islamic law discussions, and profiles of religious leaders. (SOHIRIN)
