Govt Committed To Promoting Pesta Kaul
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - The government is committed to promoting Pesta Kaul as a tourism product to enhance tourism in Melanau communities, said Minister in the Chief Minister's Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah.
She said the government has earmarked Pesta Kaul Mukah as the main festival to be prominently highlighted to other communities and tourists, because it is held on a grand scale at Kala Dana beach in Mukah every year.
"The government has adopted Pesta Kaul Mukah as a ‘bapa' or father of all kaul festivals held in Mukah Division because it is held on a grand scale every year and able to attract foreign and domestic tourists to Mukah.
"It is the model for other relatively smaller kaul festivals held in Oya, Igan, Matu and Sungai Klid/Plajau, which would also be promoted to enhance domestic tourism to improve income and living quality of the people," said Fatimah.
She said this during the opening ceremony of Pesta Kaul Oya 2010 organised in collaboration with the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) Sibu/Mukah at Pantai Kuala Oya yesterday.
Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, announced that the government has plans to upgrade the facilities at the current Pesta Kaul Oya site under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) through the Dalat Mukah District Council (MDDM) for the convenience of locals and to attract more participants and visitors from outstation.
With the election in Sarawak getting nearer, Fatimah advised people in the Dalat constituency to be united and stand strongly behind the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to enjoy greater development and progress.
"It imperative for all of us in Dalat constituency to set aside any feelings of jealousy and hatred among ourselves. Instead, we should be united behind the caring BN government," said Fatimah, stressing that she had learnt from experience that one's downfall may be caused by ‘hidden enemies' from within.
In his speech, Jasa Sibu/Mukah officer Awang Julaihi Awang Ali Borhan said Pesta Kaul Oya was organised under the ‘1Malaysia: Leaders-with-the-people' programme being held in all constituencies in Sarawak. Courtesy of Borneo Post Online (Gaing Kunding)
