Experience The Cultures of Japan At The Brunei Museum
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - A unique collection of modern Japanese crafts is on display at the BruneiMuseum, and is open to the public from until June 27.
The exhibition, entitled 'Contemporary Japanese Crafts', was launched yesterday by the Head of the Brunei History Centre, Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Haji Umar and witnessed by foreign diplomats as well as government officers.
The exhibition showcases 64 craftworks, which depict the contemporary situation in Japanese crafts to a broad range of people worldwide. It also displays Japan's diverse sense of values and highly complex developments.
According to the Director of the Brunei Museums Department, Awang Bantong bin Antaran, the exhibition is the third of its kind to be organised by the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Brunei Museums Department.
"The exhibition and cooperation as we have today will no doubt further enhance our understanding on Japanese arts and culture while contributing towards fostering understanding and goodwill and strengthening the ties between Brunei Darussalam and Japan," he said.
Visitors can view the exhibition free of charge during working hours. The exhibits have been divided into six categories namely ostentation, quiet refinement, crispness, fine detail, deformation and flowers and birds.
Also in attendance was the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei, Hirose Noriki, who spoke a few words prior to the launching of the exhibition. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
