MUIS Injects S$500,000 Into Fund For Part-Time Madrasahs

MUIS Injects S$500,000 Into Fund For Part-Time Madrasahs

Singapore- Singapore‘s Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) is injecting S$500,000 into a fund for part-time madrasahs in mosques.

The fund, which now stands at S$1.2 million, is used to ensure every Muslim child receives some religious education.

It is also used to subsidise the training of teachers.

This was announced during the Mosque Madrasah Convention to approve the MUIS curriculum in all 68 mosques by 2010.

The curriculum is called a L.I.V.E. and provides religious education for students who do not attend full-time madrasahs.

Introduced in 2004, the curriculum combines traditional religious education with contemporary teaching methods.

It aims to teach young Muslims how to practise their faith in a modern and multi-religious environment.

Through the fund, MUIS also wants to help children from low-income families attend such classes in the mosques.
