Professor Wu Discusses Malay Language Development in China

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - A special MIB lecture entitled 'Malay Language Development in China' was recently delivered by Professor Wu Zongyu, Director of Malay China Studies Centre, University of Foreign Language Studies, Beijing, China.

The lecture was organised by the Knowledge and Language Upgrade Centre and Student Affairs Section of UNISSA. Among the present were UNISSA Rector cum guest of honour Dr Haji Serbini bin Haji Matahir, officers, lecturers and UNISSA students.

The day saw Professor Wu Zongyu relating his experience of learning and teaching the Malay language to Chinese students.

Admitting that it was not easy to teach the language at the earlier stage, he said however, that with concerted effort he was able to attract their attention with the help of Malay poems and proverbs.

These days, the study of Malay language in China is rapidly expanding, with six universities offering it.Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
