Kampung Pandan C Launches Three Food Products

Kampung Pandan C Launches Three Food Products

Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam - Kampung Pandan "C" in Mukim Kuala Belait officially launch their products yesterday under the "One Village, One Product" initiative that was propagated by the Ministry of Home Affairs back in 2007.

The products were "Lada Boh Pandan" (Pandan chilli paste), "Kerisik" (coconut paste) and "Bawang Goreng" (fried onions), with each packet priced at $1, $1.50 and $2 respectively.

Based on the Japanese experience of "One village, One product", the initiative is not just to help the villages sustain themselves economically but also to preserve the heritage culture of the villages.

The co-chairpersons, Hjh Juriamah Duraman and Juwana Alik said they started preparing for the products a few years back, but the programme met with a setback after the then chairman Bujang Ibrahim, passed away leaving a void behind the product planning.

After recovering from the loss, the committee was finally able to get back on track with regards to products planning.

Present at the ceremony as guest of honour was Belait District Officer Matusin Orang Kaya Sura Hj Tuba who shared that Kampung Pandan "C" is currently awaiting budget approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs with regards to financial support their "One village, One product" programme.

"They (Kampung Pandan "C") are awaiting for budget approval from the ministry, and with the money, they will be able to make bigger plans for their products," he said. "While waiting for the budget approval, what my office will do is to try help them by providing them premises in the district free-of-charge for them to market their products," added Matusin.

He said that the Village Consultative Councils (MPK) of both Kuala Belait and Pandan "A" have already received budget approvals from the ministry for the amount of $8,400 and $4,350 respectively, and the application from Pandan "C" is the third one from the Belait district.

The budget for each village will vary depending on how big their "One village, One product" project is. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
