A Night Just to Better Ties
Fiji, Japan - In an effort to create mutual understanding with the people of Fiji, and the Pacific in general, the Indonesian Embassy is organising a cultural night and exhibition at the Suva Civic Centre next week.
Titled "Remarkable Indonesia", the event will show those in attendance the rich culture and diverse arts of Indonesia.
The embassy in a statement said cultural dances would be performed by the 2010 participants of the Indonesian Art and Culture scholarship from eight Pacific island countries including Fiji.
"The recipients are from Samoa, Nauru, Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands," it stated.
"Other performances will include the Angklung and Arumba orchestra which is made up of previous year's participants of the scholarship.
"The evening will also include women participants of the recent bamboo and batik workshop jointly conducted by the embassy and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation.
"They will showcase their handicraft and artefacts created during the workshop."
Also on the performance list is the youth choir from the Conservatorium of Music, the Davui Ensemble violinists and talented soloist Selai Naivalurua.
Apart from the cultural exchange, there will also be an aspect of trade.
"The embassy will exhibit various Indonesian products," the statement said.
"Some of the products are still in the process of being introduced into the Fiji market.
"Other products that will be on display have already been on the local market for some time now."
Those who will attend the cultural night and exhibition will not have to pay anything. However those who attend will however have to pay food which will feature Indonesian delicacies.
The "Remarkable Indonesia" event will be held next Thursday, October 28, from 6.30pm-8.30pm.
