Foreign Tourists to Participate in Toba Lake Festival
Parapat, Indonesia - Many foreign tourists from several other countries took part in 3K race in celebrating Toba Lake Festival here Sunday.
Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI) Chief of North Sumatera region HM Yahya accompanied by General Secretary Irwan Pulungan said they were surprised to find the people so enthusiastic, including the foreigners, in joining the race to celebrate the annual festival.
"Tens of foreign tourists who are participating the full prized race are coming from Germany, Australia, Holland and China," Irwan Pulungan, former national athlete, said here Sunday.
The race committee cooperated with National Sports Council (KONI) and PASI, targeted 1.000 participants only to join the race, but it turns out to be more than 2.000 so that the Parapat tourist city became crowded.
Irwan added the reasons of many contestants registered immediately before the release centered in front of Wisata Bahari Hotel was because the short mileage and lots of lucky draw prizes.
He confirmed the 3K race in Parapat is not aimed at getting good achievement, but persuading the people to do sport as well as celebrate Toba Lake Festival and to invite tourists.
Besides 3K race, the festival which was opened on October 20 also organized motor racing, diving contest, beach volley match, rowing and many art contests in Parapat and Samosir city.(*)
