`Turath` Book May Open Doors to New Opportunities

`Turath` Book May Open Doors to New Opportunities

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - The Acting Minister of Religious Affairs, Pg Hj Bahrom bin Pg Hj Bahar, said the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers College University that offers several Turath' book lectures and trains teachers, will one day provide opportunities for foreign students to follow the programmes especially on the Turath book.

He said this at a regional seminar on `Turath book' yesterday.

Since Islam entered the Malay world; hundreds of Islamic academicians have emerged.

They have left behind priceless heritage for the next generation and such heritage is known as the `Turath' book which becomes the main theme of the regional seminar, he said.

The pace of Islamic development in the Malay region has produced the writings of the Turath book in many Islamic knowledge fields that we inherit today.

Turath book is a religious book in the Malay language that uses old Jawi writings and traditional Malay language.

Seri Begawan Religious Teachers College University has made it obligatory to learn the `Turath' book since its inception in 2007 in its diploma and degree levels.

The College University has made a wise decision to incorporate the Turath book in its curriculum.

With such, the Turath book learning programme makes the College University as the sole tertiary institution in the region.

Such uniqueness would not only create its own niche but will also be capable to provide programmes not offered by other institutions.

"I believe that if such a field is developed and its facilities become more comprehensive such as by increasing its skillful academic workforce, enhancing the effectiveness of its teaching and learning, multiplying its resources relating to Turath book, it would not be impossible for the College University to become an attraction for academicians and researchers in the region. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
