Sail Morotai to Trigger Province`s Growth
Ternate, Indonesia - Sail Morotai 2012 is expected to kick-start economic growth in NorthMalukuProvince, a local banker has said.
Marlison Hakim, head of Bank Indonesia`s Ternate branch said here on Thursday Sail Morotai 2012 would increase the province`s economic growth by more than 10 percent.
"North Maluku`s economy grew by 8.8 percent in 2009 but it was driven by consumption. To boost the region`s economic growth, we have to move from consumption to production," Marlison said.
When Sail Morotai 2012 was launched, economic activities in the province would change from consumptive to productive and thus accelerate economic growth, he said. So far people in the region mostly spent their money on consumptive activities and almost none on investment.
Therefore, Marlison called on all parties in the province to support Sail Morotai 2012 and help make the event a success, and thereby contribute to the region`s economic growth.
He said the local government from now on should start to speed up infrastructure development, especially in Morotai island to support the expected international marine event in 2012.
Marlison expressed hope that tourists visiting North Maluku for Sail Morotai would also invest in the province, and therefore the local people should be ready to support the international marine event by maintaining peace and stability. (*)
