Display of Indonesian Culture Opened in Camaguey, Cuba

Camaguey, Cuba - Located thousands of kilometers away –at the southeast part of Asia- the Indonesian culture reached Cuba in a display of visual arts dedicated to 50 years of diplomatic relations between that country and Cuba.

A photo exhibition, films and a sculptor who uses materials like fruits and root vegetables offer a singular picture of Indonesia, an archipelago made up of more than 17,000 islands and 240 million inhabitants with hundreds of ethnic groups.

Indonesian ambassador to Cuba Banua Radja Manik and president of the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power (local government)Luis Ynchausti extolled the friendship bonds between the two countries strengthened during the past 50 years of relations.

The opening ceremony of the program took place at the Larios gallery-workshop, venue of the photo exhibit showing aspects of the Indonesian society, economy and nature, to be open until Sunday.

The exhibit includes snapshots of Indonesian leaders during visits to Cuba, including Ahmed Sukarno who traveled to the island in May of 1960. Sukarno was the first foreign head of state to visit Cuba after the triumph of the Revolution.

Camaguey’s Orchestra of Angklung of Indonesian traditional musical instruments performed during the opening while artist Indra Solihin showed his skills in carving fruits, root vegetables and other foods.
