Jakarta Fair 2011 to Open Thursday Evening

Jakarta, Indonesia - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled on Thursday evening to officially open the Jakarta Fair 2011, an annual event to commemorating the anniversary of the capital on June 22.

As per usual, the 44th fair will take place at Jakarta Fair Ground in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. This year’s show is expected to run for 32 days, until July 10, and feature up to 1,300 stalls.

More than 2,600 local and foreign companies are taking part in the event, fair organizer PT Jakarta International (JI) Expo said as quoted by kompas.com.

“We've been working together with the Jakarta administration and are ready to open Jakarta Fair. We believe Jakartans and residents of neighboring areas have been anticipating this event,” JI Expo marketing director Ralph Scheneumenn said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Various attractions, including modern and traditional ones, will be performed on three stages provided in the area by the organizer — the Main Stage, Gambir Stage and Jazz Vaganza Stage.

Up to 250 performers including local and foreign musicians, are expected to take part in the event.

To promote Jakarta’s indigenous culture, Betawi, “Batavia Week” will be held from June 28 to July 2, during which traditional Betawi art performances will take place on the Gambir Stage.
