Thailand Could Learn from Singapore`s Muslim Community Project to Solve Southern Insurgency

Sydney - Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Saturday offered to show to Thailand how to use a community project to solve the violence in Thailand‘s deep South.

Government Spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp said Lee made the offer during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont at the Observatory Hotel in Sydney.

Lee made the offer after Surayud asked him about the Community Engagement Programme and Lee replied that it was aimed to reduce religious tension following the 9-11 terrorist attacks against World Trade Centre buildings.

He said the project was aimed to promote cooperation among the people and reduce mistrust among members of different faith in the society.

Lee said Thailand could learn from the project and adapt it to solve the southern insurgency.
