Jakarta Chosen as Islamic Cultural Center City
Jakarta, Indonesia - JakartaCity is determined as Islamic Cultural Center city in Asia region this year. Besides Jakarta, there is also ConakryCity for Africa region and Tiemcen for Middle East region. This decision agreed on the meeting of Tourism Ministers for Islamic Conference Organization (OKI) in 2004.
Hermono as Head Sub-Directorate of Social Development and Current Information Cooperation for Foreign Affairs Ministry Multilateral Directorate General said that with this decision, the countries of its capital city determined as Islamic Cultural Center city should design Islamic nuanced activities which contain Islamic values.
“For Jakarta, we, from Cultural and Tourism Ministry, Jakarta Provincial Government through Tourism and Culture Department, Religion Ministry and Foreign Affairs Ministry, have designed series of events to be hold as Islamic Cultural city,” he stated, Friday (7/15).
The logo and theme for this event has been prepared and will be launched on July 18, 2011, at Ismail Marzuki Park (TIM). The theme title determined is “Discovering Jakarta Islamic Culture Tradition” that aims to explore Islamic cultural tradition exists in Jakarta.
The event management will hold various contests, such as students writing contest about Jakarta and Islam and art contest. There will be also awarding for artists who contribute to raise Islamic teachings. Each winner will be rewarded with money amounting USD 2,000.
Meanwhile, Tatang Sumantri as Head Section of Destination Attraction Management for Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department expressed this appointment aims to establish friendship between OKI country members through art and Islamic cultural events.
In the logo launching and Islamic Cultural Capital City event opening, there will be submission of award plaque from Directorate General of Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo as the host event. Whereas this event opening will be marked by bedug (traditional drum) beatings together with Jakarta Governor, ISESCO Directorate General, Religion Minister, Cultural and Tourism Minister, and Foreign Affairs Minister.
“Various Islamic arts cultural shows will be performed, such as music, dances, poetry readings, fashion shows, sand painter attractions which will paint Islam history journeys in Indonesia and Jakarta,” he explained.
This event will last for six months, starting from July to December 2011. There are scheduled books provided, which contained programs to be presented in this event and its locations, so that Jakarta residents can visit it, especially during fasting month.
