Malaysia and Singapore to Forge Closer Cooperation in Education

Putrajaya - Malaysia and Singapore will forge closer cooperation in education and explore new opportunities through collaborative efforts which would be entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the MoU would be signed during his five-day visit to the republic from Dec 3 at the invitation of his counterpart, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

"The MoU will ensure that the initiatives which had been implemented such as the networking between schools, leadership programmes, cluster schools, discussions and smart partnership in ICT between both counties will be incorporated," he told reporters after chairing a post-cabinet meeting of his ministry here today.

He said the cooperation signified the relations between both countries in education were on the right footing.

Hishammuddin said Malaysia was ready to share its experience in running sports schools and learn the republic`s technical and vocational programmes besides comparing notes on co-curriculum and student leadership training.

During the visit, he will call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and senior minister Goh Chok Tong.
