Malaysian Students In Indonesia Country`s Best Minor Ambassadors

Kuta - Malaysia`s 4,600 students in Indonesia are the country`s best minor ambassadors to help further enhance ties between the two nations, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin.

He was happy to note that the Malaysian students, most of whom are pursuing further studies in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy in 13 universities in the republic, are performing activities that provide benefits to the local community where they were studying.

"I came to know Malaysians students in Indonesia are very dynamic and that is why I term them as minor ambassadors for Malaysia," he said when hosting a dinner for some 100 Malaysian students who are studying at Universiti Udhayana here.

Malaysian students in Indonesia did a lot of volunteer work for the community like helping out at orphanages, social work and providing free medical screening in rural villages apart from engaging in sports activities with the locals, which help boost Malaysia`s image, he said.

At the function, Zainuddin also advised Malaysian students in Indonesia not to be misled by opposition activities back home like street demonstrations as they were only aimed in trying to create chaos in the country.

He said the government would do all in its power to ensure that peace, racial harmony and economic stability continued to prevail in Malaysia.

He added that they (students) should also not pay any attention to former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim`s call for reforms as the country had been on the path of reform since 1959.
