IRO launches book on religious customs, practices in Singapore

Singapore - The Inter-Religious Organisation Singapore (IRO) has launched a book entitled "Religious Customs and Practices in Singapore".

The handbook, which took the organisation two years to compile, reflects the multi-religious dimension in Singapore society.

It is a brief introduction to the religious beliefs and practices of the ten main religions here.

A special award was also presented to the Singapore Buddhist Lodge Chairman Lee Bock Guan for his outstanding contribution and support towards Singapore`s racial harmony for the past ten years.

IRO said they are raising funds for their new headquarters as they are currently operating out of the Singapore Buddhist Lodge.

Guest-of-Honour, President S R Nathan, said: "Religious harmony has prevailed here for as far as I know. Occasionally, we have had abrasions of one kind or another, but they were not because people wanted it that way... I think, compared to other countries, we have seen religious harmony much longer than many others have."
