US history & culture at Brunei Museum

Brunei Darussalam - The public will be able to catch a glimpse of American history and culture when the Brunei Museum exhibits next week photographs of Native Americans by a famed American ethnographer.

Organised with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the American Embassy announced yesterday that it would be showcasing the Sacred Legacy exhibit, a unique piece of American history and culture.

The public will be able to browse through some 60 print photographs of Native Americans drawn from the work of famed ethnographer Edward Sheriff Curtis, where he illustrates the broad diversity of North American Indian tribes.

Taken from the latter part of the 19th century, the images showcase Native American life and culture on the Great Plains, in the Southwest, and on the Northwest Coast, the Plateau and Alaska.

Open to the public March 24, the exhibition will also feature a combination of photographs by two local groups - The Photographic Society of Brunei and the Photographers Association.

Members of the public, photography enthusiasts, students and artists are welcome to view the Sacred Legacy for the two-week duration of the exhibition, before moving to it`s next destination in Yangon.

The exhibit recently ended a two-month tour in East and West Malaysia and has been travelling in the Southeast Asia region since last year (Ben Ng).
