Indonesia to build more int`l vocational schools
Jakarta - The Indonesian government will develop vocational schools of international standards in a bid to meet foreign labor market demands for graduates with good English competency, local press reported Wednesday.
Indonesia has recently received a request for 200 graduates from automotive vocational schools to work abroad, but could send only 90 people because of their limited English-speaking ability, reported major newspaper The Jakarta Post, citing National Education Ministry official.
Graduates from business and management, information technology, hotel and tourism, and mining and craft schools were the most highly sought for overseas employment.
The government has set a target ratio of 40:60 for vocational school to high school students by 2009 in order to meet the labor market demands, said director for vocational school development Joko Sutrisno.
"The ratio now stands at 43:57," he said. (Editor: Jiang Yuxia)
