Learning Immortalizing Event by Photography
Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- On Saturday (21/6), Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (the Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture) hosted photography training for all BKPBM‘s crews.
This photography training aimed to enhance the skill and knowledge of BKPBM‘s crews on photography. Mahyudin Al Mudra – the Head of BKPBM – remarked “One of the main skills for a journalist is possessing good photographic skills, either on its theory and practice. A journalist is not merely capable of expressing an event into a good narration of news, but also immortalizing an event on photograph. A in this case is photograph which catches people‘s intention at a glance.”
On that occasion, BKPBM presented Aam Ito Tistomo as the speaker in this photography training. Among the Indonesian photographers, Aam is a famous one who has so much experience on photography. “Taking a photograph is easy, moreover by using digital camera which has complete features. However, a good photographer must own technical skill and artistic sense of creativity.” Aam said
A good photo is not merely a photo showing awesome composition of photography, but also a photo which represents the space and time in a moment. Therefore, a photographer must have basic photographic skills such as operating camera, lighting, choosing right angle, composition, and maintaining cameras.
After possessing basic photographic skills, a photographer-to-be must work out frequently by observing magnificent sceneries and taking as many as possible good objects. Such practice, according to Aam, may help a photographer to develop his sensitivity in immortalizing a moment and choosing the right picture for news. Talking about the last one, Mahyudin evaluated some photos published on MelayuOnline.com and MalayTourism.com. Manyudin said that some photos on those websites do not have relevancy to the news. Hence, Mahyudin suggested all BKPBM‘s crews to choose the right photo for articles and news they write on those webs.
The participants enthusiastically paid the attention to the lecture delivered by Aam. One of the participants asked a question about the correlation between good cameras and good photos. Aam answered “principally, type of cameras is not a significant factor determining the result of a photo. However, the most important things determining the quality of a photo are basic photographic skills and photographer‘s sensitivity (the decisive moment).”
In question-and-answer session, Aam gave some compact discs about photography learning guidance for the participants who answered his questions. The training was ended by giving souvenir to Aam by Mahyudin. (AA/brt/03/06-08)
