Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officially open the third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) here on Wednesday.
The President will deliver the keynote speech at the conference, to be held from July 30 to Aug. 1 and organized by Indonesia`s largest Muslim organization Nahdatul Ulama (NU).
Conference participants will discuss current conflicts in Muslim-populated countries, such as Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as seek resolutions to those conflicts, NU chairman Hasyim Muzadi said at the Presidential Office on Tuesday.
"The discussions will involve observers, scholars and government representatives," he added.
Around 300 participants are expected to attend the conference, including some 200 participants from 66 countries such as Iran, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Somali, the Netherlands, France, the United States, Malaysia and Australia.
