Metro TV to Broadcast BKPBM`s Activities

Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- On Sunday (3/8/2008), a private TV station, Metro TV, visited Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (The Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture).

The visit was aimed at screening the entire BKPBM‘s activities in cultural preservation through online media. The coverage will be broadcast on August 10th, 2008 at 9 a.m., on Metro TV.

Metro TV planned to present the Head of BKPBM, Mahyudin Al Mudra, as the speaker on an interactive TV show namely E-Lifestyle on Metro TV.

The entourage came to Balai Pinang Lima – the office building of BKPBM – at 2.30 p.m. All BKPBM‘s daily activities in cultural preservation such as writing, designing, editing, and uploading processes were objects for Junaidi – Metro TV‘s cameramen. Besides, BKPBM‘s physical products and souvenirs were also caught by Junaidi‘s camera.

In an informal meeting before the screening, Budi Cakrawati – Metro TV‘s producer – remarked that cultural preservation through the internet, MelayuOnline.com, is an interesting thing to be broadcast on television. Moreover, there is no governmental or non-governmental institution which does the same thing unless BKPBM itself with its three cyber portals, MelayuOnline.com, MalayTourism.com, and RajAliHaji.com.

Tubagus Deddy – Metro TV‘s reporter – asked about the content on MelayuOnline.com. “Does this (MelayuOnline.com –red) only publish academic content?” he asked.

Mahyudin, who was wearing elegant Malay traditional cloths, explained that MelayuOnline.com tries to cover the whole aspects relating to Malay such as culture, history, culinary, literature, and figure.

MelayuOnline.com provides not only serious research on Malay studies, but also provides brief information for those who just want to know Malay at a glance,” Mahyudin answered.

At the end of the coverage, Yuhastina Sinaro – BKPBM‘s Public Relations Officer – gave some T-shirts for the entourage. Jokingly, Mahyudin and Yuhastina invited Metro TV to screen Malay civilization in the world and broadcast them on TV. Hopefully such joke may bring a better development for those two institutions by establishing co-operative networks someday.
