The Fourth Manassa Symposium Opened Today
Bandung, MelayuOnline.com, The fourth Archipelago Manuscript National Conference (Manassa) and the 12th Archipelago Manuscript International Symposium (SIPN) were officially opened today (04/08/2008) at 2 p.m., in the Graha Sanusi Building, Padjajaran University, Bandung. This four-day symposium was officially begun by Dr. Titik Pudjiastuti replacing Ir. Jero Wacik – Tourism and Culture Minister.
In her speech Pudjiastuti conveyed that Manassa is a professional organization wherein eminent researchers, academicians, and ancient manuscript observers, gather to conduct ancient manuscript preservation and research. Besides, Manassa also routinely holds annually international symposium on Archipelago manuscript.
This year symposium spoke on the Advantage of manuscript for society, which was aimed at prompt researchers to improve the frequency of deep research on ancient manuscripts for human civilization. To encourage that purpose, the committee displays some ancient manuscripts and the replica of the Archipelago‘s inscriptions.
Dra. Etti R.S., the Chair of the committee, remarked that ancient manuscripts actually bear abundant values for human civilization either in the present and in the future.
“This symposium is a great moment to explain the public that now is the time to raise the awareness of Archipelago manuscripts‘ urgency. And, now is also the right time to recollect numerous Archipelago manuscripts scattering over in the world,” Etti said.
Came to the symposium were prominent figures from America, Netherlands, France, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore, who dedicate their selves for studying ancient manuscript. Came also some ancient manuscript observers and researchers from Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya, Palembang, Padang, Bali, Banjarmasin, Makassar, and Bandung
The 12th Archipelago Manuscript International Symposium was held upon the cooperation between Padjajaran University, Cultural and Tourism Board of Indonesian Republic, National Library of Indonesian Republic, Indonesia Language Center, KITLV Jakarta, and Yayasan Lontar Indonesia.
On the first day, the committee has planned to organize the fourth Archipelago Manuscripts National Conference and a general session to elect the new board of Manassa for the tenure of 2008 – 2011. The last day of the symposium will be a general session to choose the host of the coming Archipelago Manuscript International Symposium.
