Researchers Summon to Save Ancient Manuscripts
Bandung, MelayuOnline.com - On Tuesday (5/8/08), the Archipelago Manuscript National Symposium discussed extensively the efforts to save ancient manuscripts through research, not solely physical preservation anymore. Research on ancient manuscripts is badly needed for its abundant advantages for humankind.
The opinion above appeared with a hope that Indonesian government would realize the urgency of ancient manuscripts for human being. Besides, all people should actively participate in such efforts as it cannot be done personally but cooperatively.
Uka Tjandrasasmita conveyed a paper “Rising up People‘s Awareness of Ancient Manuscripts as a Cultural Heritage,” which was aimed at encouraging people to conduct serious research on ancient manuscript.
“Manuscripts show us the mindset and philosophy of ancient societies in the past but, most of them have not been revealed yet. Therefore, researches on ancient manuscript need to be conducted now and hopefully, it would be beneficial for humankind,” Tjandrasasmita remarked.
Came also as the speakers in the symposium were Aswandikari, Endang Rohmiatun, F. Tjandrasih Aji, I Wayan Suardiana, and Roger Tol. Similarly, most of them talked the themes of ancient societies‘ philosophies in the past.
All the participants conceded that the number of research on ancient manuscripts is still low. Consequently, they summoned the world‘s manuscript observers to conduct painstaking research on ancient manuscripts so that it will be beneficial for human being to face globalization era.
