President to Open Alkhairaat Congress

Palu- Sulawesi: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officially open the ninth Alkhairaat muktamar (congress), at Alkhairaat Islamic boarding school in Kotarindau village, Dolo district in Donggala regency, on Aug. 26.

Chairman of the Central Sulawesi chapter of the Indonesian Ulema Council, Saggaf Aljufri, who is also the spokesman for the event organizer, said Monday that the President had agreed to open the congress, after Ali Muhammad Aijufri and Fadel Muhammad met him in Jakarta on behalf of Alkhairaat.

The congress will discuss the improvement of quality of education for boarding school students and the future strategy for dakwah (preaching and propagation).

A number of ministers and ambassadors are also invited to attend the congress.

About 5,000 people from Jakarta, Sulawesi, Papua and other provinces across the country will participate in the congress.
