Pleasure Improvement for Yogyakarta Tourism

Pleasure Improvement for Yogyakarta Tourism

Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- On Friday 22nd, 2008, a dialogue “Yogyakarta Tourism‘s Challenges” was held in the meeting room of Balai Pinang Lima building by the Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture (BKPBM). Come as the speakers in the dialogue were Prof. Dr. Marsono – a full professor at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Gadjah Mada University, Drs. H. Tazbir, M.Hum – the Head of Yogyakarta Tourism Development Board, Mohammad Akhiruddin – the CEO of Purosani Hotel, and Danang – the CEO of Jogjakarta Plaza Hotel. Amongst the participants of the dialogue were the representatives of Bumi Putra Bank, journalists, students from several universities in Yogyakarta, and MelayuOnline.com‘s crews.

The dialogue moderated by Yuhastina Sinaro was begun by an opening speech delivered by Nursaed Ali Rido – the chief-in-editor of MelayuOnline.com. On his remark he said that the dialogue was organized to stimulate the raising of tourism industry in Indonesia.

“Likewise, this is a commitment of BKPBM in enhancing Indonesia‘s tourism sector so that it brings abundant advantages for human being,” he said. Further he added that BKPBM has tried to explore tourism potencies in Indonesia based on cultural point of view and publish them on MalayTourism.com.

Marsono, who was appointed as the first speaker, jokingly told the participants about his displeasure experience in Yogyakarta. The lack attention for Yogyakarta tourism infrastructure is still low; totally different from its slogan “Yogyakarta berhati nyaman” (Yogyakarta the comfort heart).

“Some taxi drivers in Adi Sucipto airport impolitely persuade visitors having just arrived from the airport to get in their taxi. Consequently, safety and comfort should be noticed seriously by tourism practitioners to avoid bad tourism image in Yogyakarta,” he remarked.

Similarly, the second speaker Akhiruddin argues that good public services, infrastructures, facilities, and transportation are the most vital keys to successfully create good tourism image in Yogyakarta. Further he added that the lack of government‘s attention for tourism development is also included to one of the challenges. He offered a solution to increase the frequency of cultural events to attract more tourists to come to Yogyakarta.

Danang who appeared as the third speaker argues the same as Akhiruddin. Public services and infrastructures should be remarked as the noteworthy factors by both government and private tourism industry practitioners to increase the number of visitor to Yogyakarta.

On the other hand, Tazbir, as the representative of regional government, argues that Yogyakarta tourism is developing well. The flight to Yogyakarta is increasing quickly in this three months (during the summer-red). Moreover, he added that visitors now will be hard to find hotels to stay in Yogyakarta. “Those facts show us that Yogyakarta tourism development is growing significantly now,” he said.

At the end of the dialogue, almost all participants agreed that safety and pleasure are they most vital keys to create good tourism image in Yogyakarta. The dialogue ended by souvenir giving by Hadi Kurniawan. Four books entitled Rumah Melayu, written by Mahyudin Al Mudra, were presented to the four speakers.
