Indonesian food fest slated Jan. 16-Feb 20

Davao - Cafe Marco of Marco Polo Davao, which offers the longest buffet in town, will introduce Indonesian cuisine beginning January 16 for the Indonesian Food Festival.

Lalu Malik Partawana, Indonesian Consul General, said during Wednesday`s edition of the Club 888 press forum at the Marco Polo Davao they will promote Indonesian cuisine until February 20.

Dubbed "Makan: Indonesian Food Festival," Cafe Marco will dig into Indonesian delicacies that will be prepared by guest Chef Lydia Saabaheng from Indonesia.

Saabaheng will bring along with her staff to introduce popular dishes, such as Soto Ayam (Chicken Soup with Vermicelli), assorted sate, daging rendang padang, opor ayam, sate pusot, martabak tecor, pastel goreng, pepes udang, gado-gado, asinar sayur, balapis, kue kala mata, and the popular Indonesian snack, risoles.

"We`re very thankful for the hotel`s support. Through this event, diners, who purchase P4,000 worth of food, will get a chance to win a trip to Indonesia," the Partawana said.

The consul general added that the fun and excitement of tasting Indonesian cuisine doesn`t stop there, as diners will also witness Balinese dancers who will show off exquisite dance moves.

On the other hand, Vice Consul Bernard Loesi said food is one element that showcases Indonesian culture. "It could also be a means of diplomacy of two nations," he said. (JGRS)
