UBD To Hold Public Lecture On Brunei`s National Philosophy

UBD To Hold Public Lecture On Brunei`s National Philosophy

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Academy of Brunei Studies in Universiti Brunei Darussalam will be organising a public lecture entitled "National Philosophy - Malay Islamic Monarchy" tomorrow (March 3) at 2.30pm at the Lecture Theatre of the Chancellor Hall.

The lecture will be delivered by Dato Paduka Dr Haji Abd Latif bin Haji Ibrahim, Director of Balai Kenangan of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien.

The concept of Malay Islamic Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja) was defined in a titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as a nation of Malays professing Islam as its way of life and practising the Malay culture and governed by the monarch.

The Malay Islamic Monarchy as the life system of the Malays in Brunei Darussalam has been the essence in the survival of the country as a sovereign nation with its values based on the Malay identity, the religion of Islam and the monarchical system of government.

From a historical perspective, without the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy, the country would have turned into an entirely different political, religious and national structure.

The lecture is aimed at explaining the meaning and the dynamism of the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy and how it is practised and implemented by the Malays in Brunei.

It will also explore the continuous relevance of the philosophy in modern Brunei.

The lecture will be delivered in English and is open to members of the public who are interested to gain deeper understanding of Brunei`s national philosophy.
