Queen Launches Songket Revolution Book
Songket Revolution By Tuanku Nur Zahirah
Kuala Lumpur - The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah launched the "Songket Revolution" book showcasing the cloth`s rich aristocratic history and current development.
Authored by Datin Noor Azlina Yunus, the book features photographs of the latest songket designs and products, as well as centuries-old songket weaving techniques in Peninsular Malaysia, especially in Terengganu.
It also carries the opinions of some of Malaysia`s well-known fashion designers like Rizalman Ibrahim, Melinda Looi, Datuk Tom Abang Saufi and Radzuan Radzwill on songket.
Noor Azlina said she hoped the book would promote the uniqueness of songket not only in Malaysia, but also abroad.
The book can be purchased at all MPH stores, arts and heritage centres and at the Tuanku Nur Zahirah Foundation office at RM380 each.
It is also on display now at the Malaysian Handicraft Festival at Harrods, London.
