Senayan City Hosts 3rd `Fashion Nation`
A design by Allure Batik (Ramadhani, JG)
Jakarta- This year`s “Fashion Nation” concluded on Friday after a week of showcasing new collections at SenayanCity in South Jakarta.
The event kicked off with a show by “Fashion First,” a boutique at SenayanCity that fosters many young and talented Indonesian designers. The store`s spring and summer 2009 collection, called “From AM to PM,” featured ready-to-wear clothing from 10 local young designers: Adesagi, Barli Asmara, Ichwan Thoha, Jeffry Tan, Jennifer Chan, Priyo Oktaviano, Ferry Salim, Rusly Tjohnadi, Vera & Ina and Tasha Dharsono.
Veri Y. Setiady, Senayan City`s marketing director, said it was an honor for the complex to host the annual event. “Hopefully, by working together, we can position the Indonesian fashion industry on the same level as the international labels.”
Jeffry Tan, a newcomer to the Fashion First boutique, graduated from the renowned Esmod School of Design in France, where he was named “Best Designer” in both 2002 and 2005. His new menswear collection, “Return to Noble,” often combines traditional Indonesian and modern touches, giving his pieces an experimental feel.
Priyo Oktaviano showed two lines, called “24 Hours Blue” and “Starry Night.” The first focused on everyday wear for women, while “Starry Night” featured evening wear in the form of elegant cocktail dresses and long gowns.
Design duo Vera and Ina stayed faithful to their bohemian signature style, which has proved popular in the past, but with a more sophisticated and mature twist.
“We decided to come up with a Spring and Summer Collection 2009 for Fashion First that consists of ready-to-wear and practical clothes, that are still trendy and fashion-forward at the same time,” said Deli Makmur, project director for the boutique. “This theme was still open for interpretation by each designer, a fact that becomes obvious when we saw the different designs they created, both for office wear and evening wear.”
Allure Batik also presented its “Essence of Shanghai” collection on Wednesday, featuring batik designs with an oriental touch. Katrin Figge
