Malaysian PM In S Sulawesi For Social Visit
Makassar, South Sulawesi - Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Sri Mohd Najib arrived at Sultan Hasanuddin airport, South Sulawesi, at 2.50 pm local time for a social visit to descendants of the Gowa king here on Friday.
The new Malaysian prime minister who had just attended the World Ocean Conference (WOC) in Manado, North Sulawesi, will also pay a visit to the tomb of Sultan Hasanuddin, a national hero and the 16th king of Gowa.
Najib was welcomed by South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo and Makassar Mayor Ilham Arif Sirajuddin and other regional officials.
South Sulawesi regional government spokesman Jufri Rahman said the Malaysian prime minister was to pay a visit to the tomb of Sultan Hasanuddin and have a cordial meeting with descendants of the king of Gowa.
The Malaysian premier is also expected to plant a tree in the yard of the Gowa district head`s office and attend the inauguration of Tun Abdul Razak Street (formerly named Aroepala Street or Hertasning Baru Ring Road).
"The street is named after the father of the sixth Malaysian prime minister as a token of friendship and to mark the emotional bonds between the late Malaysian leader and South Sulawesi. Najib is a descendant of the 19th king of Gowa, I Mappadulung Daeng Mattimung Karaeng sanrobone Sultan Abdul Djalil Tumenganga ri Lakiung," Rahman said.
