World War II Cannon Found In Jambi
Jambi - The Jambi Police` Mobile Brigade on Friday secured a cannon found by locals in Merangin regency, believed to be a leftover from World War II, an officer has said.
"The locals found it and handed it over to us for security reason," head of the Brimob`s bomb squad unit, First Insp. Turis B, said.
Turis said the cannon was made of pure copper. It is some 80 centimeters long and weighs 19 kilograms. It has a diameter of seven centimeters at the front and eight centimeters at the rear.
Made in England, according to Turis, the cannon is still in a very good condition and works, despite the fact it has been in disuse for over half a century.
"We plan to deliver the cannon to the Jambi Tourism Agency to make it a tourist asset," Turis said.
He added it was not the first cannon found in the province. A similar cannon was found in Bangko, but was then dumped into a river.
