Minister Highlights National Unity

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - Unity and harmony among people of various races and ethnic groups are invaluable assets in enhancing the stability of the nation. The spirit of unity should be instilled in the younger generation.

This was stated by Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Adanan, at the launching of “Pesta Sibut and Gawai 2009”, organised by Kg Sibut, Mukim Amo Consultative Council, Kg Tanjung Bungar, Kg Lepong Baru and Kg Sumbiling Consultative Councils and Temburong District in collaboration with the Iban community in Temburong yesterday.

The minister said cooperation and understanding among all levels of the community will become the catalyst in generating the development and progress of the nation.

He said residents, including those living in the rural areas, continue to live in harmony under the leadership of the beloved ruler although the country is made of people of various races with different cultures and beliefs.

People live happily in unity by maintaining the Bruneian identity based on the MIB (Melayu Islam Beraja) or Malay Islam Monarchy concept.

The minister congratulated the organising committee of the festival, which not only aimed to foster closer relationship among the people but also enhance friendship and instil the spirit of unity among the various races in Temburong District.

The festival provided the opportunity to learn about the culture and tradition of people of other races.

The highlight of the festival was “Kumang Gawai 2009” (beauty contest). Achong Tanjong
