Rare Beaded Tablecloth On Show At Singapore`s Peranakan Museum
Singapore - A magnificent, early 20th century beaded tablecloth, which features Victorian-inspired motifs like birds and flowers, is one of the world`s finest examples of Peranakan beadwork.
The 1.6-metre artefact, which was created using over a million glass beads, has been restored to its former glory by conservators over a period of five weeks.
It is said that such items were usually commissioned by wealthy Peranakan families for special occasions.
The restoration work was supported by BNP Paribas Singapore and BNP Paribas Foundation.
The tablecloth is on display at the Peranakan Museum till July 23, before making its way to Paris for a special exhibition at the Quai Branly Museum. Hazlina Halim & Hoe Yeen Nie
